New Fund for England's Seafood Sector Launched

The MMO has now launched the government’s new £10 million Fisheries Response Fund for the English fishing and aquaculture industries. The fund aims to contribute towards the fixed costs of businesses that have been affected by the pandemic. Eligible fishing vessel owners will be contacted directly by email.
New Grant for Selling English Seafood

Defra and HM Treasury have opened a new grant scheme, which aims to make it easier for England’s seafood businesses to sell local produce. The £1 million scheme should help businesses adapt to changing markets and facilitate changes to infrastructure. This forms part of the £10 million fund for England's seafood sector.
Scottish Government Increases Seafood Funding

The Scottish government has increased its funding for Scotland's seafood industry to £22.5 million, drawing on UK-wide and Scottish budgets. The announcement of the further £3.5 million will be targeted for assisting with the fixed costs of large sea fishing vessels.

New Fisheries Bill Progressing Through Lords

The House of Lords finished close analysis of the Fisheries Bill on 11 March. The Bill will now move on to the report stage, at a date to be announced. The Secretariat's digest of initial significant changes since 2019 is accessible here.

New support packages for English and Scottish fishing vessels have been largely welcomed by the industry, although some vessels are ineligible for the grants.
