New Fisheries Measures Look to Reduce Bycatch of Valuable Non-Quota Species

The MMO has released an update on the proposed changes to fisheries technical measures within the Celtic Sea, following the annual negotiations between the UK and the EU. The new measures are expected to come into effect on the 5 September, applying to bottom trawls and seines.
Scottish Seafood Taskforce Meets for the Final Time

The Scottish Seafood Exports Taskforce held its final meeting on Monday. The group was bought together to consider seafood export issues in Scotland following Brexit. A final report will be issued, and tailored engagement with the fishing sector is set to continue.
Financial Impacts of COVID-19 Quantified as UK Fleet Endures Turbulent Times

Economic performance estimates for 2020 indicate reductions of almost a fifth from 2019 in both operating profit and turnover for the UK fleet, as published by Seafish. However, adaptation and diversification have proven the resilience of the fishing industry, despite the difficult year.
