Our Next Event: Climate Resilience

We are pleased to launch our next event, ‘Climate Resilience: Lessons from Abroad’. The event, to be held on 12 July, will hear from international speakers about how they are building resilience to climate change into fishing communities through research, outreach and management.

UK and EU Successfully Reach Agreement on Catch Limits for 2021

The UK and EU have concluded negotiations with an agreement which outlines fishing opportunities for the rest of 2021, under the new terms of the EU-UK TCA. It establishes fishing access to each other’s waters and sets out Total Allowable Catches for 75 shared stocks.
UK Becomes Member of Global Ocean Alliance Helping to Provide $500 Million to Combat Climate Change

To mark World Ocean Day, the UK Government has set out its marine commitments, including becoming a member of the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance, supporting the '30by30' target, and launching plans to better protect English waters.
Launch of Marine Fund Scotland Looks to Encourage New Entrants into the Industry

The Marine Fund Scotland (MFS) programme will supply funding for new entrants to the fishing industry to buy a second-hand vessel, boosting fishing's resilience by removing barriers for those looking to progress within the sector. The MFS replaces the EMFF for Scotland.

Following a lack of fishing agreements, both coastal states have raised quotas for mackerel beyond what the science suggests, receiving criticism from the UK and EU.

Environment Bill Second Reading Calls for Climate Change to Be Better Addressed
House of Lords members welcomed the bill, although argued for stronger provisions to address climate change, in relation to issues such as the marine environment.

Seafood 2040 Receives Further Funding from FaSS to Continue its Work
Working to support the English seafood industry, the programme has revised its 25 strategy recommendations, that strive for a more sustainable future for the sector.

SafetyNet Technologies Offer Free Advisory Sessions for Fishing Industry
The advisory sessions will run on 17, 21 and 24 June, to help members of the fisheries sector find possible fishing tech solutions to challenges they face.
