Event on Monday: Climate Resilience

Parliament Sets Date to Debate Brexit Impacts on UK Fishing Industry

A parliamentary debate on fisheries has been secured for 13 July to discuss the consequences of Brexit on the UK fishing industry. Orkney and Shetland MP and APPG Member Alistair Carmichael is calling for fishing representatives to contact him with evidence for the debate.
Government Publishes Marine Plans Encompassing All of England's Seas

England’s four Marine Plans (NE, NW, SE, SW) have officially been adopted by the UK government. This marks the first time that England has a complete and integrated marine planning framework, which will guide developers, marine users, and other decision-makers. 
MMO Seeks Volunteers to Help Manage Inshore Fisheries Across the UK

The MMO is recruiting candidates to take on voluntary roles as general members for one of five Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities (IFCAs) around England, helping to shape the management of their local inshore area. The deadline for applications is 1 August 2021.
New Monitoring Technology on Scottish Scallop Dredgers

Marine Scotland is installing Remote Electronic Monitoring (REM) devices on Scottish registered scallop dredge vessels, as part of the programme to modernise the inshore fleet. Funded voluntary installations are currently taking place, before REM likely becomes mandatory for these vessels in the future.

ICES Release Advice on Fishing of Pelagic Stocks in UK Waters in 2022
Latest advice from ICES recommends including a 10.3% TAC reduction for North Sea cod and a 154% TAC increase for North Sea and west coast haddock.

Annual Seafish Survey to Collect Information on Fleet Finances and Demographics
Seafish are encouraging vessel owners and skippers to take part in their annual socio-economic survey, which will resume in person following last year's disruption.

Scottish Association for Marine Science Launches Survey for Rise-Up Project
The survey invites the UK seafood industry to share their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, looking to generate recommendations and advice for Government.

A New System for Anonymous Reporting of Fishing Gear Lost at Sea
Ghost Fishing UK is releasing a new form for the fishing industry to voluntarily and anonymously report lost gear, aiming to build collaboration with the industry.

The Seafarers' Charity Explores Working Conditions in the UK Fishing Industry
The charity, in partnership with Nottingham University, are encouraging fishermen to anonymously share their experiences of working life onboard fishing vessels.
