Backing Wind, Forgetting Fish? Do we value food from the sea, and the people who catch it?

We are an island nation – and yet, the renewable resource of food available from off our coasts is an afterthought in national policy. Government has ambitiously backed the development of renewable energy from our seas. This event asks why we aren’t backing food from the sea with the same seriousness. 

Bringing together industry leaders and parliamentarians, this side event at the Labour Party Conference will discuss the APPG on Fisheries’ recently published Action Plan, spotlight what’s at stake – for food security, coastal communities and the nation – and the priority actions Government should take to change the trajectory.

In conversation with: Mike Cohen, Chief Executive, National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations and Elaine Whyte, CEO of Clyde Fishermen’s Trust and National Coordinator of Communities Inshore Fisheries Alliance

Format: In-conversation session covering key questions facing the industry – from why food from our seas is overlooked and what’s at stake for coastal communities to what Government should do next, followed by a Q&A session.
