APPG Event | Staying Safe at Sea

Our last event of 2020 is coming up very soon. The event will explore how legislation, outreach, technology and collaboration can improve fishing safety, and will hear from a diverse array of voices from around the UK covering legislation, communication and technology. Presentations will be followed by questions to the panel and an inclusive discussion.

The event will take place via Zoom on Tuesday 1 December at 11:00am - 12:30pm.

Fisheries Bill Becomes the Fisheries Act 2020

The Fisheries Bill has received Royal Assent and is now formally integrated into UK law. The Act reflects the UK's new status as an independent coastal state, equips the Devolved Administrations with greater fisheries management powers, and emphasises sustainability.

Cefas Calls for Volunteer Skippers for Data Collection

Cefas is calling for volunteer skippers to contribute to important management decisions through data collection, since the COVID-19 pandemic has restricted fisheries observers from joining vessels. Sampling will focus on 800 vessels that predominantly target, demersal finfish, Nephrops and shrimps with trawls and nets.
Trial and Test Phase for Fish Export Service

The Government’s new Fish Export Service is open for a trial and test phase until 14 December. The trial aims to give exporters and UK fishermen who land catch in the EU the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the service and provide feedback, ahead of the service going fully live from 29 December.

Seafish Enhances Online Brexit Transition Hub

Seafish has enhanced its online Brexit transition hub to help seafood businesses prepare for the end of the transition period. The advice aims to help importers, exporters, processors, distributors, aquaculture farmers and fishers to continue smooth operations from 1 January 2021.

FIS Seeks Projects to Future-Proof Scotland's Seafood Industry
Fisheries Innovation Scotland is inviting Expressions of Interest for projects investigating greenhouse gas emissions and digitalisation of Scotland’s fleet.

Call for Ratification of ILO C188 to Set Standards for Fishers' Welfare
The ILO Work in Fishing Convention (C188) is currently only ratified by 18 nations worldwide, including the UK and seven EU Member States.
