Innovative new projects awarded government funding 

The government’s Fisheries Industry Science Partnerships (FISP) scheme has awarded £1.4m across eight innovative new projects supporting sustainable fishing and fisheries science within the UK. The funding is the first part of the £100 million UK Seafood Fund designed to level up coastal communities across the UK.
Wales launches consultation on management of cockle fisheries

The Welsh Government is seeking views on proposed new measures for the management of Welsh cockle fisheries until 6 May. It says current legislation across Wales is inconsistent and needs updating in order to protect stocks, the environment, and cockle gatherers. 
Scotland to get £14 million a year from Westminster to replace EMFF

Maritime industries in Scotland will receive £14 million per annum from Westminster to replace the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) from the EU. Part of this will be used to support development of the Scottish fish processing industry.
New APPG for Shellfish Aquaculture

A new All Party Parliamentary Group has been formed for Shellfish Aquaculture, chaired by Simon Fell MP. It aims to raise the profile and knowledge of shellfish aquaculture in parliament, and encourage local markets for UK-farmed shellfish, to account for challenging post-Brexit export rules for the sector.

First Tranche of IVMS Grants Now Open to Under-12 Metre Vessels  
The MMO has released an online system to apply for grants of up to £650 to cover the costs of an IVMS (Inshore Vessel Monitoring System) device.

Seafood Industry Developing Guidance for Crustacean Welfare
The Shellfish Association of Great Britain and the Crab and Lobster Management Group are developing best practice guidance for the welfare of crustaceans.

New Safety Rules for Enclosed Spaces on Board UK Vessels
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency has announced new safety rules for enclosed spaces on board UK vessels, including fishing boats.

FISP Network Harbour Tours to Generate New Research Ideas
Harbour tours across the UK in February and March will showcase the FISP grant scheme and connect fisheries with scientists.

Scottish Government Says No Targeted Surveillance in Areas With Gear Conflict
The Scottish Government confirms there has been no specific tasking of targeted surveillance in areas historically known to have experienced fishing gear conflict.

The LIFE Recreation ReMEDIES partnership, led by Natural England, is carrying out England’s largest seagrass planting effort.
