Fully Documented Fisheries Scheme Open for Applications

The MMO is seeking applications for 2020’s Fully Documented Fisheries Scheme, which will explore the effectiveness of the Landing Obligation, the role of Remote Electronic Monitoring and the effectiveness of new technical measures. This will include difficulties in compliance and how to address them.

Domestic Seafood Supply Scheme Approves 20 Projects

The MMO’s Domestic Seafood Supply Scheme, set up to help fund projects promoting consumption of local seafood, has now approved 20 projects in total. Businesses submitted innovative ideas that will benefit the local economy and the fisheries sector as a whole.

Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard Goes Live

The final Responsible Fishing Vessel Standard, a voluntary certification scheme promoting decent working conditions and operational best practice, is now public. Originally run in a different guise by Seafish, it is now managed by Global Seafood Assurances.

New Fisheries Bill Progressing Through Lords

The House of Lords carried out the report stage of the Fisheries Bill on 22 and 24 June, where it underwent further line-by-line examination. The Secretariat will provide a digest on the outcomes soon. The Secretariat's digest of initial significant changes since 2019 is accessible here.
