New Rules for UK and EU Vessels Following Brexit

The implementation of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement from 1 January means that new rules are in place for UK and EU vessels fishing in each other’s waters. In the absence of agreed TACs at this moment in time, provisional fishing opportunities have been agreed.
New Licences for Over 2,200 Fishing Vessels

The MMO has issued over 2,200 fishing vessel licences, following the signing of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and UK. The UK Single Issuing Authority has published a list of vessels licensed to fish in UK or EU waters. Negotiations continue for access to the waters of other non-EU coastal states.

MMO Updates Guide for Fisheries Industry

The MMO has updated its ‘one stop shop’ guide for commercial fishermen, seafood merchants and exporters, following the signing of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement with the EU. The guide signposts the changes to administrative requirements for the industry.

As part of the INdIGO project, Cefas is inviting fishermen to fill in an online survey to help inform efforts to promote biodegradable gear and recycling of existing gear.

Aided by the resource-rich new website, Marine Scotland aims for RIFGs to ultimately lead on evidence-based management in inshore waters.

The guidance from the MMO includes information on how the rules apply, selling undersize fish, reporting requirements and quota management.
