MMO Publishes Fishing Quota Allocations for 2021

The Marine Management Organisation has released this year's quota allocations for England and the UK. This includes information on calculating the Total Allowable Catch deductions for discard exemptions, determined using the same approach as in 2020.
MMO Confirms First Panel Dates for the Fisheries and Seafood Scheme (FaSS) Fund

The fund is looking to provide support for businesses as they respond to new market conditions, improve safety for fishers, and work to protect the environment. The MMO has confirmed dates for the first English FaSS panel meeting, and will consider applications submitted before 7 May 2021.
UK Coastline and Coastal Waters Worth Over £200B

A new study from the Office of National Statistics has valued the UK's marine natural capital assets at £211 billion. The report details that the value of offshore wind has increased by 37 times in the last decade and that since 2016, sustainable fishing has been more profitable than unsustainable fishing.

The Seafarers’ Charity Awards New Grants to Support Online Services
The charity has awarded £844k of grants to 17 organisations helping seafarers who have experienced sexual violence, and to help tackle loneliness and suicide.

New Campaign Aims to Help Fishermen Get Back "Home and Dry"
Another 'Home and Dry' campaign has been launched by the Fishing Industry Safety Group, working to save fishermen's lives by preventing man overboard situations.

Study Highlights the Importance of Collaboration Between Fishermen and Scientists 
Results from a pioneering 5-year study on Western herring stocks (in which Scottish fishermen played a crucial role) is set to inform decisions on the international stage.

MSC Eco-Label Funds 20 New Sustainable Fisheries Projects
The 20 international projects include grants to WWF India, the RSPB, and UK-based Fishtek Marine. All the projects are working to drive progress in sustainable fishing.
