Parliament News

Additional Fishing Quota Allocations for the UK

The government has announced the allocation of additional quota for the UK, secured during the December negotiations with the EU. This uplift, estimated to be worth around £146m, will be allocated among the devolved fisheries administrations based on past fishing activity and zonal attachment.
New Fund to Provide  Opportunities for Scottish Seafood Sector

The new £14 million fund, Marine Fund Scotland, will replace the EMFF (European Maritime and Fisheries Fund) for investments and jobs in seafood sectors, the marine environment and coastal communities across Scotland.
Live Bivalve Molluscs Impact Survey Launched by Scottish Government

The Scottish Government has launched a survey aiming to better understand the impact of the barrier to trade in exporting live bivalve molluscs (including scallops) to the EU or Northern Ireland. The survey is open until 16 April.
EFRA Committee Hears Evidence on Seafood Exports to the EU

Last week the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee were joined by Secretary of State George Eustice MP, David Kennedy of Defra, and Ian Hewett of the Animal and Plant Health Agency for an oral evidence session covering seafood and meat exports to the EU.

A new byelaw from Sussex IFCA has prohibited trawling in certain areas off the Sussex coast, to allow habitats such as kelp forests to regenerate.
